''CHAMPION LANE FROST'' monumental bronze height 15 feet of World Champion Bull Rider Lane Frost who lost his life competing at Cheyenne Frontier Days in 1989. The quote by Lane made me want to do this memorial for him I was not commissioned. Having been a bull rider and now a professional artist his quote still has a power that speaks a simple truth that touches my heart.

Rodeo Injuries

I was asked the other day how many injuries I have suffered in my rodeo career and working horses. I started rodeo when I was 16 by competing on bulls and broncs then switched to team roping which I still compete in. These are my injuries. Front teeth knocked out. Dislocated left and right shoulder. Broke right and left collarbone. 12 broken ribs seven on left side five on the right. Collapsed left lung. Broke left thumb and right hand. Broke left shoulder blade and have suffered five concussions. I have had three surgeries to repair my left shoulder, left collarbone and my right hand. In rodeo it is not if you are going to get hurt it is just when and how bad. I did break my thumb skiing and dislocated my right shoulder hang gliding. The thing is I'm hurt now and I can't wait to be able to compete again.

I had to cancel my entry in the World Series of team roping finals in Las Vegas this week.

Well I'm a little bummed today had to cancel my entry in the World Series of team roping finals in Las Vegas this week. I won a shootout spot in Jackson Wyoming this summer with my partner Roger Hollingsworth. He was fortunate and found another partner. I hope he wins first place it will pay $250,000 to win first it is a four header. I am still recovering from my horse wreck. It has been nearly four weeks since I had to have my collarbone put back together with 12 screws and plate and I'm physically just not able to do it. I hope to be back roping in few more weeks I know I sure miss it good luck Roger really wish I was there roping with you.

My collarbone was not healing right so I had to have surgery, on it Wednesday they put 12 screws and a plate in. I wish this healing would go faster!

Photo of the real Steamboat the famous Wyoming Bucking horse.  My sculpture has been modeled after him. This famous bucker bred in Wyoming was voted worst bucking horse of the year at the Cheyenne Frontier Days celebration 1906 and 1907. The horse was jet black with three white socks and had a powerful build. When he was a colt he sustained a broken bone in his nose that caused him to make a whistling sound when he bucked and that is why the cowboys gave him the name Steamboat. The old-time cowboys said the horse would buck his heart out and wouldn't quit. www.chrisnavarro.com

My heart is full.

Yesterday I posted a photo of kids on horses ordering at the drive up window at McDonalds and I said this one of the reasons I love living in Wyoming. Well I received a lot of comments and this is a message I received.
Chris, My cousin shared the photo you snapped of my kids and me at McD's drive through. Wanted to let you know this is a full circle kind of moment. The little gal in the sunglasses is my 11 year old, who 2 years ago we were uncertain if she would walk let a...lone ride again after an orthopedic surgery went wrong. My folks gave me your piece "Liberation" and it sat (and still does) on my mantle as an inspirational reminder of what is possible. Although it was a long recovery, she now rides better than ever and loves it even more. Just saw that you too are now recovering. May all that you gave to us in your work be returned to you 10 fold.With a thankful heart. God bless Tracy and Mikayla

As an artist I hope the work I do brings inspiration and joy to others and receiving that note yesterday sure made me feel good. I have been struggling with my own health lately and my body might be broken but I can assure you my heart is strong and full. I love what I do for a living and cant wait to get back to work. Installed ''WYOMING COWBOY'' at the new Rochelle Gateway Center at the University of Wyoming the official dedication and unveiling will be this Friday Oct 24  at 11am. I would like to personal invite everyone to come. My wife Lynne has been a real trooper she has been driving the truck and trailer and hauling me and my art around and taking care of me I wouldn't have been able to get through these last few weeks without her. She is my partner and the love of my life. I am a lucky man!

This is the most damage to my body at 1 time I broke 7 ribs my collar bone my shoulder blade a collapsed lung and a concussion.They did a cat scan and xrays the nurse said we noticed you had five broken ribs and broke your right collar bone on the other side from past rodeo injuries.I told her I had a matched set now and I wouldn't drift to the right. Have to keep your sense of humor. Broken ribs hurt the most I will get through this. Really thankful my horse Man wasn't hurt bad!

I was in a heck of a wreck on my big bay horse Man we were running full out when another cowboys hose bolted from him and ran into my horse. We hit his hose at 40 mph my horse flipped over him and landed on me. I broke 5 ribs my collar bone my shoulder blade a collapsed lung and a concussion.I was life flighted to a hospital in Santa Fe. I was in there for 2 days.My horse was not hurt bad the other horse broke a bunch of ribs he did not have a rider on him. I just got back to Casper now I need to heel up.
